USPS to release Sesame Street stamps

USPS to release Sesame Street stamps

Ian Kerr

The US Postal Service is releasing a set of 16 stamps to mark Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary. Twelve would have been a more appropriate number, surely… anyway…

The stamps showcase 16 (ah-ah-ah) of the Muppets characters that appear on Sesame Street — Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, Rosita, The Count, Oscar the Grouch, Abby Cadabby, Herry Monster, Julia, Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus (he’s real, you know), Elmo, Telly, Grover, and Zoe.

The Sesame Street stamps will be issued as Forever stamps - meaning they will always be equal in value to First Class stamps.

The first episode of Sesame Street aired on 10 November 1969.

The USPS stamp issue will be officially launched on 22 June to coincide with the Sesame Street Road Trip - a festival being held in 10 cities across the USA.

Fingers crossed the next Sesame Street stamp issue will feature chickens in the trees.
