Poste Italiane reducing paper wastage in post offices
Ian Kerr
Poste Italiane is trying to be greener in the post office with its new Green Ticket initiative.
With Green Ticket, customers can “take a number” without taking a ticket. Poste Italiane’s standard queue management system (see photo above) invites customers to take a printed ticket, which then allocates them a place in a queue for either postal or financial services.
Under the Green Ticket system, customers can select a paperless option by scanning a QR code at the ticketing terminal.
The new system is being trialled at 45 post offices.
The Green Ticket concept was generated as part of Poste Italiane’s “Libera il tuo talento” programme - “Free your talent” - which encourages innovation among the post’s employees. The idea was selected from over 50 proposals submitted by the initiative’s 300-plus participants. All proposals were linked to the concept of sustainability.
Other queueing systems exist, such as those at Iceland Post (Pósturinn), that allow customers to book their place in the queue without entering the post office.
