Poste Italiane's electric deliveries in Como
Ian Kerr
Italian postal operator Poste Italiane is continuing to grow its electric delivery fleet - and the latest vehicles will help deal with Italy’s huge growth in e-commerce parcels.
Three new electric three-wheelers will take to the streets in Como, delivering letters and parcels.
In the province of Como, Poste Italiane saw 163% growth in parcels for April compared to the same period in 2019.
Nationally, from January to March, Poste Italiane delivered 38 million parcels - an increase of 10% on the same period last year. Letter volumes for Q1 2020 were 14% down on Q1 2019.
Italian posties generally deliver a mix of letters and small parcels, depending on their delivery vehicle.
Last year, Poste Italiane announced a same-day delivery service for Amazon customers in the cities of Rome, Bari, Bologna, Florence, Milan, Naples, Padova, Turin and Verona, with orders delivered during the late afternoon and early evening.
This built upon Poste Italiane's announcements in 2018 of evening and Saturday delivery, a post point (PUDO) partnership with a national network of 3,000 tobacconists, and a burgeoning network of parcel lockers that offer parcel collection and drop-off.
More recently, Poste Italiane acquired an interest in Milkman - an interesting development that could lead to Poste Italiane offering best-in-class delivery options for customers.
