Australian legends of cricket
Ian Kerr
Two of Australian cricket’s greatest moustaches are being honoured in the 25th annual Australia Post Legends Awards… but Australia’s greatest mo of all is notably absent.
Yes, I’m referring to David Boon and his iconic upper lip upholstery.
This is not to say that the other honourees (Allan Border AO, Adam Gilchrist AM, Jason Gillespie, Dennis Lillee AM MBE, Ellyse Perry and Ricky Ponting AO) aren’t worthy. They are - in particular Ricky Ponting, who is a Tasmanian.
These six Australian cricketers will each have their portrait featured on new postage stamps as part of the Australian Legends of Cricket stamp issue.
The very first recipient of the Australia Post Legends Award was Sir Donald Bradman. He didn’t have a moustache, goatee, or designer stubble. He might not have even had a sleeve tattoo.
The Australian Legends of Cricket stamp issue comprises of six $1.10 stamps, a first day cover, stamp pack, maxicard set, six booklets of ten $1.10 stamps, and a booklet collection pack.
