Monday 18 December 2017 is predicted to be Australia Post's busiest day for parcels...ever! The Australian postal operator predicts it will deliver over two-and-a-half million parcels on Monday.
Since early October, Australia Post has experienced unprecedented parcel volumes as consumers take advantage of pre-Christmas sales.
"Australians are shopping online more than ever, with an unprecedented growth rate of 15 per cent in the first half of 2017." - Australia Post Group Chief Operating Officer Bob Black
The top categories being bought online include homewares and appliances, toys and games, and fashion (mostly t-shirts and thongs).
Some post offices are offering extended opening hours in the lead-up to Christmas, and weekend parcel delivery is being offered in some areas.
As well as record parcel numbers, Australia Post's posties are also delivering huge letter volumes, with more than 100 million letters and greeting cards delivered last week alone.
